Hello all,

I am new to this NG and I have just read a few of the post and maybe
you can answer my question, I hope?

I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to have a knee replacement I have
been to the second doctor for a second opinion and was told that when
and if I could not stand the pain then he would talk about the knee
replacement.

I've had one GP and two orthopedic doctors diagnose me as having a
Baker's cyst plus arthritis in the knee. The first orthopedic doctor
he immediately suggested a knee replacement and after haggling with
him he relented and gave me a cortisone cocktail which lasted about
three months no pain no problems. I went back and this time he
refused the cortisone and was pushing the knee replacement again. We
compromised and I took the five shot series of the chicken comb which
actually gave me more pain than without it.

My question is, how would the knee replacement affect the Baker's
cyst? In all my research I have never seen where a knee replacement
was treatment for the Baker's cyst. Would the knee replacement also
eliminate the cyst?

If no one has the answer to this question and I find out either from
my doctor (in a couple of weeks) I will post the answer for those who
may be curious.

I thank you

Albert

albert,
the baker cyst in the back of your knee is the result of fluid
accumulation due to your arthritic knee. that cyst will just disappear
after knee replacement. how old are you in the first place? this
procedure has been around for a while and the success rate is fairly
high.
