Can anyone help? I twisted my left knee playing soccer 9 days ago and I
felt and heard a 'snap' as I went down. I have been in pain since, and
there is a joint effusion. I have been to my doctor who says it is just
a bad sprain, but I am worried I may have ruptured my ACL. It isn't
getting any better and gets worse particularly after standing for a
long time.

You might want to get a second opinion, especially from someone who is
familiar with sports medicine.

It might be a good idea to get it checked out at the emergency
department/casualty - they would be able to xray it and do certain tests
which could determine if you've done any further damage.
